Important Westcon Updates

Honorary Membership

At the last WESTCON Board of Directors meeting, the Board voted to extend Honorary Membership to all deceased WESTCON members of one year or more.

Sadly, shortly thereafter, we learned of the passing of recent Past-President John Schneider, and WESTCON regular meeting attendee Ray Booth, AIA.
John Schneider (pictured left) was the President of All About Homes, a multi-disciplined building inspection, project management, construction defect and standard of care assessments, as well as expert witness firm. John was an active Past-President of WESTCON known for his calm demeanor during tense progressive times for the organization.

Ray Booth, a California architect (photo not available) was the President of Tower Architectural Group in Berkeley, and a frequent attendee and contributor at WESTCON events. Ray participated in architectural peer reviews, moisture intrusion investigations and solutions, expert witness and litigation support services, and retro fit and reconstruction designs.

As with all our members in passing, these men will be sadly missed.
In a separate motion, the WESTCON Board of Directors also voted that all WESTCON members of one year or more who are retired from active employment will also be elevated to Honorary Member status. Honorary Members enjoy complimentary annual membership dues and discounted event costs in recognition of their past and ongoing participation in WESTCON.

Student Membership

Another additional action instituted by the WESTCON Board of Directors is the formation of a student membership classification. Student Members of WESTCON are those currently and actively enrolled in a design and/or construction focused educational program.

A student outreach committee has been formed to be chaired by Treasurer Fari Barzegar, S.E., and the committee has been tasked with promoting WESTCON to the design, architecture, engineering and construction programs at California State University East Bay, Diablo Valley College, Laney College, San Jose State University, and University of California at Berkeley for the time being.
Student members of WESTCON enjoy complimentary annual dues and subsidized event costs.

While registering for future WESTCON events, members will have the option to add a student sponsorship to their payment to promote student participation and mentoring at all WESTCON events.
