Liability Crisis

Westcon is pleased to have David Alvarado and Jeff Rodriguez with ABD Insurance Services presenting for the September dinner meeting.

Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Alvarado will be giving a general marketplace overview and discuss specific case laws that continue to plague the construction industry.

They will discuss Senate Bill 800 and explain why they believe it most likely will have no positive lasting impact.

Other topics planned for discussion are: current insurance environment and traps to avoid; short-term and long term outlooks; how to prepare a submission for underwriters upon renewal; and exit strategies.

ABD works with and knows the risks and liabilities assumed by General Contractors under Owner contracts. These risks may include anything from design responsibilities for the project, scheduling of the work, indemnification for any and all injuries or damage arising out of the project, supervision of the subcontractor’s work, protection of property and the public, and providing guarantees on the performance of the work.

General Contractors must be confident that all of these contractual risks have been identified and proper risk management techniques have been implemented to mitigate them. As construction specialists, ABD helps implement risk management programs to address these risks.

David Alvarado has focused on the contractor/developer clientele for over 17 years. He currently represents a significant number of contractors/developers in various industry segments in Northern and Southern California. His clients and specialties range from sub contracts of $20million with traditional insurance placements to finite risk programs for clients with annual exceeding $700million.

Jeff Rodriguez has extensive experience developing and managing insurance and risk management programs in a variety of industries including construction. He joined ABD in 1998 and assumed responsibility as practice leader of the ABD Construction Group in 1999.
