| OCTOBER MEETING PROTECTED MEMBRANE ASSEMBLY A SOLUTION TO AN UNUSUAL ROOFING
CHALLENGE Presented by: John P. Grossmann and Lyudmila Kogan For our October meeting John P. Grossmann and Lyudmila Kogan
will present a roofing project with several unusual challenges. Challenges included developing a system
that would have a useful service life of 30 years, and that could accommodate
heavy foot traffic and continual maintenance activities related to existing
mechanical and electrical equipment located on the roofs. The presentation will focus on the process that was used
in selecting a new roofing system, and how the performance characteristics
of the selected roofing system will meet the client's long term performance
objectives. An overview of
the selected roofing system will be presented as well examples of design
solutions to atypical roofing conditions.
In addition a review of the quality control plan that was implemented
during construction will be presented.
The presentation will conclude with a short discussion of how a
similar roofing system might be adapted to a green roof. Mr. Grossmann is the principal architect of the Grossmann
Design Group and has been providing consulting services related to roofing
and waterproofing for more than 20 years.
Services have included the analysis of roofing and waterproofing
failures, the design of new roofing and waterproofing systems, and the

control programs related to the application of a variety of roofing types.
