New Materials - Old Waterproofing Problems

November's Westcon meeting featured a presentation by Harv Abernathey and Bruce Mosias of AquaTech Consultancy, Inc. in San Rafael, entitled New Materials - Old Waterproofing Problems. The presentation was divided into the wall component by Harv and the deck component by Bruce. Harv discussed the various field findings at the window / plaster interface. With the visual aid of the slides Harv showed the subtly of the flashing around the window fin and the importance of the overlaps and their direction. Bruce highlighted the importance of detailing in the application of horizontal waterproofing. He showed a peculiar case where no proper drainage was allowed for in the entrance deck of a residence. A custom- made solution was designed and yet to be implemented.
