UPCOMING MEETINGS

JUNE:"Managing Moisture and Solving Water Intrusion Problems". This seminar will be presented by Mark Hronicek from DuPont Tyvek Construction Products and is registered with the AIA Continuing Education System (AIA/CES) as one Learning Unit under the heading of Health, Safety and Welfare. JULY: "How the Internet Will Change the Design and Construction Process" . Colin Gilboy, P.E. is a Director of Construction Sciences Research Foundation, Inc.. He developed the 4specs.com Internet directory which provides construction professionals with hot links to over 3,100 manufacturers' product websites.

AUGUST: No meeting.

SEPTEMBER: "Do's and Don'ts - Mostly Don'ts of Sheet Metal" will be presented by WESTCON member Bill Koltoff.

OCTOBER: WESTCON member Chris Nelson will give us some background and insight about the "Repair of the Frank Lloyd Wright Marin Civic Center". (Would you believe a Frank Lloyd Wright building that no longer leaks?) PENDING: We have some irons in the fire at the time of publication for November forward. We are awaiting confirmation from Rich Avelar for a presentation based upon his extensive experiences as both plaintiff and defendant expert; Matt McCabe of Simpson Company for a presentation of proper and improper installations and applications of connectors, fasteners and epoxy systems; and please contribute your feedback on a possible evening for a Panel Discussion on "State of the Art versus Standard of Care". (Also volunteer if you would like to be on the panel and give an idea of your position or feeling for the subject), and evening of self-promotion where there would be no scheduled speakers. Members would be given the mike for one to three minutes to explain or promote who they are and what they do or contribute to the good of the organization.

WESTCON CODE COMMITTEE LUNCH MEETING

The WESTCON Code Committee will be having a meeting to discuss WESTCON's one day symposium being held in the Fall of 2000. Interested members are invited and encouraged to attend.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS


RE: Retired Members / Membership
WESTCON as an organization has been asked by members to consider a more mature class of membership (read RETIRED!!) with possibly a reduced fee structure.
After due consideration your Board of Directors has agreed to the following: THAT A "RETIRED MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY" SHALL BE ESTABLISHED.

DEFINITION: A retired member shall be:

  • A WESTCON or former WESTCON member who maintained his individual or company membership in good standing for the three previous consecutive years.
  • Who is no longer engaged in income producing consulting activity.
  • Who has reached the age of at least 65 years
  • Who has filed an application or request with the Board of Directors for change to "Retired Status"
  • Who's application or request has been accepted by the Board of Directors.

RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES OF "RETIRED MEMBERS"

Retired members shall have no voting rights but shall retain all other rights and privileges with the exception of a modified listing in the WESTCON Directory and on WESTCON's Website reflecting their new status.

DIRECTORY AND WEBSITE LISTING:

A "Retired Member category shall be added and members shall be listed alphabetically without their specialty listing but indicating members profession or title (i.e.: Architect, Roof Consultant, Acoustical Engineer, etc.).

DUES FOR RETIRED MEMBERS: Dues shall be $35.00 per year.
