Title: Proposed Addition to the California Building Code - Making Homes
Safer from Wildfire – presented by Steve Quarles, Wood Durability Advisor, UC Cooperative Extension

In recent years wildfires have been responsible for the loss of many
structures in California, other western states and Florida, and Australia.
The shift in population and housing growth into wildland areas has resulted in increased interest in ways to reduce structure loss in these
urban-wildland interface areas. Steve will discuss the latest in what we
know about protection of homes from wildfire, and present an update on the proposed Wildland-Urban Interface Building Standards, currently under review for incorporation into the California Building Code. When implemented. this new code will affect new home construction in certain designated areas in the state.
