April MEETING

Re-Roofing

and Re-Waterproofing Projects -

How to Make

Well Reasoned System Selections

Presented By: Phil Dregger, Principal, Technical Roof Services, Inc.

Westcon member Phil Dregger with Technical Roof Services, Inc. will be the speaker for our April dinner. Mr. Dregger is a registered Professional Engineer, Registered Roof Consultant and has been President of Technical Roof Services, Inc. since 1991.

Planning for successful re-roofing and re-waterproofing projects requires much more than finding a roof/waterproofing system that has a low installed cost and comes with a long warranty.

Mr. Dregger will present case histories that will show how a systematic approach to defining project requirements and identifying system attributes can lead to a short list of suitable options in most cases.

Planning must include identifying a range of sometimes overlooked owner requirements (e.g., leave equipment running and/or control fume/noise generation during installation) and researching attributes of candidate roof/waterproofing systems (e.g., compatibility with residual moisture or asphalt on the deck) since these will greatly impact system viability and project costs.

Mr. Dregger has designed roof and waterproofing systems to meet the special and challenging requirements of clients including the University of California, Pacific Bell, Kaiser Hospitals, Mervyn’s and Disney.

He has investigated numerous roof and waterproofing problem conditions including damages sustained after Hurricane Iniki and after the Northridge Earthquake. He is the author of several articles on roof technology and has lectured to industry groups sharing lessons learned from his many investigations.

Mr. Dregger is a past Director of the Roof Consultants Institute and serves as a faculty member of the Roofing Industry Educational Institute. He also serves on the executive committee of the special ad hoc Roofing Industry Committee on Wind Issues.
