Mr. Bucholtz is the author of "Techniques andCommentsî, a twice-monthly technical newsletter devoted tolathing, plastering (particularly stucco), EIFS (exterior insulation and finish systems), drywall, light gage steel framing, insulation, waterproofing and other topics ofinterest to Westcon members. This publication has been helping to keepconstruction industry professionals updated for almost twenty years.

John Bucholtz is an acknowledged authority and expert in the fieldwith nearly forty years of experience and has numerous case histories andstories to share with us. We look forward to a lively discussion period ofquestion and answers. To help you get ready and bring a question or two, thefollowing is the outline of the presentation prepared by Mr. Bucholtz:
Portland Cement Plaster Stucco
Yesterday: Traditional scratch, brown and stucco finish coats that arestill performing today: Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS),one-coat stucco systems; and Silos Ü one-coat applications.
Tomorrow: Innovations without end.
EIFS in Litigation: How it started in the southeast and has created aplethora of lawsuits, which aremotivated by competing industries to get a greater share of the market. Mr.Bucholtz contends 99% of the defects are not inherent in the system but arecaused by poor construction. *

In summary, the reasons for using stucco as a finish will be explainedas primarily inexpensive, readily available, and performs well in anyclimate.

* R.D. McClure has made a report of the EIFS problems in thesoutheast, notably the Carolinas and Georgia. The booklet written by R.D.McClure and other pertinent information will be available at the meeting.
